A Raven and a Dove

In a land long lost, there once lived a man
Tall, dark and handsome he did things none other can
One day he met a lady with hair the color of raven
So beautiful and so kind like she was sent from heaven

Long he tried to woo her with his flowers, hearts and gold
But he couldn’t love her as she was already told

When the man found this out he cried in pain and despair
“Why can’t I get love?” His heart beyond repair

He gathered his strength and went to her house
She was hiding in a corner afraid of a little mouse
He picked the prick up and threw it away
She flung her arms around him “My hero!! You saved my day!!”

His heart started racing. A great battle within.
That was when her father walked in
“Step away from my daughter; don’t you know she’s told.”
“I never let go of the hands I once hold”

Her eyes watered, she could cry a river
“I am sorry” she whispered; her voice had a quiver
“I don’t know this man. Take him away.
He waltzed right in in the middle of the day!”

Her father caught him and took him to the court
Where he was exiled as a last resort
With his fame and fortune all gone long
He now lived alone with wine and a song

Then one day there was a knock on his door
The lass had at last found his home.
“I am sorry” she said, “I can’t take no more”
“If you still love me lets run away to Rome”

Why he asked this sudden change of mind?
“To my love, you have always been so blind!!”
“I was never blind. I always knew, my love!
But what took was the tale of a raven and a dove”

For a dove and a raven got caught in a storm
And flew far away where they were from
The raven and the dove gave each other wind
And soon they had left the storm behind

Once out of the storm, raven looked at the dove
So white and so pretty she fell in love
Same were the dove’s feelings when he saw the raven
Black and bold it was a match made in heaven

When the other birds heard of this, they called it profanity
“A raven and a dove! Are they fools!?” They said in vanity
Mocked by the society they flew away to Rome
Celebrated their love under a beautiful dome

“So lets run away from this blasphemous society
To where its only love that stands all high and mighty”

Far they ran away with their sheep and their cattle
There they married each other in a Sistine chapel
And so long lives the tale of this romance
for true love always gets a second chance…
